A very generous legacy received on the death of Geoff Wilson, inspired the Trustees to plan for the redevelopment of the Hall, to improve facilities for the village and to give the school a new look. The plans comprise a larger new Hall, uncluttered inside and large enough to take a stage at one end. The old Kitchen becomes a new classroom and the old hall is divided into a new Village meeting room available throughout the day, a new kitchen and store room. The façade of the old building both to the west and the south will remain substantially unaltered maintaining the 1857 style.
The old playground becomes a car park for school staff, visitors and those hiring the hall. An overflow car park is available in the new playground.
In addition there will be a children’s garden at the front of the school. The entrances to school and to car park will be totally separated, thus dividing vehicular from human traffic.
Construction started on 3 March and is due to be completed in September, weather permitting.
Further funding of £25,000 is still being sought to allow for the full completion of the project. Contributions should be made to:
Kevin Parkinson, Honorary Treasurer, Egginton Parish Institute, 42 Elmhurst, Egginton, Derby.
All contributions will be acknowledged in a permanent fashion in the final design.
